...they all saw me watching though, which was awkward, so I slowly and politely rolled by
and continued on my way.
They weren’t very scared of me and actually let me get quite close before backing away, but they only backed up a few meters! After I was past, they just went right back to enjoying their lunch.

Oddly no! The lead one
did walk right into the road and stare me down for a few minutes though before going back to join the rest, so I must’ve really upset her at least...

I remember you posted before about deer in your yard. Be forewarned, very soon the novelty will wear off and you will fail to see any hint of cuteness.
20 years ago some friends and I were close to my parents place on a peninsula and stumbled onto a group in the road. They were quick to get out of the way and we were shocked as deer usually weren’t spotted near this land. It stayed this way for the next 12 years or so with the odd sighting .
About 7 years ago the population exploded. 2 years ago I was visiting when I went to the deck at 11pm. Flood lights on. I t wasn’t until 5 minutes later when I was going back in the house did I notice one standing in the shadows 10 ft away watching me. It was scary.
Last year Dad hit one in the car. This was almost inevitable as there are now so many. Even in broad
daylight they’
re reluctant to get out of the way.
My parents
have no shrubs left
in their yard
, a ruined lawn, and don’t bother putting a garden in
anymore. It looks like locusts came through. They’ve become so tame they approach
you. A thrown stick doesn’t even make ‘em flinch
.
There is nothing they can do. Monsters.

It’s not quite reached that pandemic level here yet, lol. The last few winters have been hard on them and there haven’t been any population rebounds. We’ve seen them about the same about since we moved here in 2004 so far!
